Kawartha Lakes, Ontario–A new documentary series offers an intimate look at the farmers working with care, intention, and community at the heart of their practices. Farming with Intention, created and hosted by filmmaker Kait Howell of Common Thread Films, explores regenerative and community-rooted farming across the City of Kawartha Lakes.
The series examines how farming can be an act of care, for the soil, for local ecosystems, and for the communities these farms serve.
Each episode centres on a different farm, revealing how day-to-day decisions shape sustainability, education, food access, and community building. From long-established organic operations to volunteer-driven community farms, Farming with Intention highlights the shared values guiding these growers as they navigate climate uncertainty, economic pressure, and the responsibility of nourishing their communities.
“Farming reminds us that nothing exists in isolation. Soil, seeds, farmers, and communities are all part of the same story. Farming with Intention is about exploring those connections.” – Kait Howell
Filmed across the City of Kawartha Lakes, the series features a range of farms and agricultural initiatives including Thunderbird Farm, Merkaba Acres, The Glen Road Organics, Edwin Binney’s Community Farm & Education Centre, Kawartha Backyard Farms and Featherstone Farm. Each episode explores how these growers approach farming with care and purpose, balancing environmental stewardship, food access, and community connection.
Farming with Intention invites viewers to reflect on where their food comes from, how thoughtful farming practices can support resilient local food systems, and the power of fostering community.
The series was produced by Common Thread Films, a local production company dedicated to telling thoughtful, community-rooted stories. Farming with Intention is hosted, produced, and directed by Kait Howell, with cinematography by Stephanie Sannuto and editing by Jessica Zimmerman.
The series will premiere April 30th 2026 on Bell Fibe TV Channel 1 and the Fibe TV app. For more information about the series, visit: tv1.bell.ca
